Part of the Resources Series:
- Resource Management: Keep reserves for planned upgrades.
- Hero Fragments and Upgrades: Identify materials you still need.
Quick Answer
The permanent Recycling Center is accessed from the upper-right area of the Backpack. Select an eligible item to see what it returns and how much of today's exchange allowance remains. Being old or unused does not make every item eligible.
Recycle only after checking your next planned use. The preview is an exchange, not an inventory cleanup with an undo button. A large stack can still be useful if a future upgrade consumes that material in bulk.
Three Checks Before You Confirm
Eligibility: Is the exact item listed? Similar icons can represent different generations, rarities or event versions. An exchange for one fragment does not prove that every hero fragment can be converted.
Return: What do you actually receive? The permanent system includes exchanges into resource crates, random crates, Biocap items and skin-related currency, depending on the input. A random crate is not a guaranteed quantity of the reward you want.
Allowance: Does the limit belong to this item or to a shared reward group? Multiple inputs can consume the same daily quota. Spending that allowance on a low-priority exchange can prevent the exchange you intended to make next.
Do a small first exchange if you are unfamiliar with the screen. Record the output and remaining allowance before processing the rest. This is particularly useful when an event also lists eligible recycling actions.
Surplus Is What Remains After Your Plan
Use a simple reserve calculation:
Safe candidate amount = owned quantity − planned upgrade cost − reserve for other active uses.
For example, owning 1,200 of a material does not mean all 1,200 are spare. If your next chosen upgrade needs 900 and another active use needs a 200 reserve, only 100 is a candidate for exchange. These are planning numbers, not game prices.
If a different material currently blocks that upgrade, keep the first material reserved. Having no use for it today is different from having no use for it after you obtain the missing design, capsule or fragment.
The Hero Gear guide and Chief Gear guide concern separate equipment systems. Do not recycle one system's stock because you have finished the other.
Item Decisions That Commonly Go Wrong
| Item situation | Check before recycling | Sensible decision |
|---|---|---|
| Combat Manuals appear unused | Your three Training Area instructors and upcoming replacements | Reserve EXP for the actual leveling plan |
| Chief EXP looks excessive | Your Chief level, talent needs and any current cap | Do not assume today's cap makes every future use impossible |
| Old hero fragments remain | Rank, skills, eligible conversions and any separate Completion needs | Keep enough for the hero's unfinished role |
| Spare gear material piles up | The cost of the next several intended upgrades | A surplus of one component may be waiting for another |
| Duplicate permanent skin item | Whether it is truly a duplicate and what the exchange returns | Inspect the preview before turning it into skin currency |
| A choice crate can be opened | Its available choices and your current bottleneck | Preserve the choice until you know which item you need |
For manuals, check the Training Area and reset guide: shared levels do not mean every underlying hero has already been leveled with EXP.
Why Old Event Items Cannot Be Recycled
The permanent exchange works from an eligibility list. Expiry of an event, age of an item or a full Backpack view does not guarantee inclusion. If the item is absent, first check that you are using the permanent Recycling Center rather than a similarly named limited event.
Next, inspect the item's description for its own exchange or use option. Do not open unrelated crates or spend Biocaps in the hope that this unlocks recycling. If no supported route exists in your version, leaving the item unused is better than converting valuable materials simply to make the inventory look tidier.
Older screenshots are especially unreliable for hero conversions. Supported heroes and event items can change while the Recycling Center's name stays the same.
Skins, Tickets and Random Crates
Recycling eligible duplicates can contribute to the Skin Store economy. Distinguish a permanent unlock item, a temporary skin, an upgrade item and currency used in the store. Their names or artwork may look related while their exchange eligibility differs.
When choosing between a guaranteed exchange and a random crate, budget using the guaranteed result. A possible ticket reward is not a promise that one more crate completes a skin purchase. Set a maximum quantity of genuinely surplus inputs before opening any random rewards.
For a free account, preserving an affordable progression upgrade usually matters more than clearing a large inventory stack. A spending account should still compare what it gives up: replacing recycled materials with a pack turns a cosmetic or low-value exchange into an additional cost.
Recycling During Events
Some Survival of the Fittest or Bloodsport task lists include specified recycling actions. Read the item and action named in the task. Recycling any item, opening the resulting crate and spending its contents are three different actions; only the listed action qualifies.
Check remaining task and recycling limits before a large exchange. A small eligible transaction followed by a score check is cheaper than discovering afterward that the wrong input consumed your allowance. Event points are an extra return on a sensible exchange, not a reason to destroy a needed upgrade stockpile.
FAQ
Where do I find the Recycling Center? Look in the upper-right area of the Backpack for the permanent recycling interface.
Why can I not recycle every old event item? Only listed items qualify. An item's age or the end of its event does not automatically add it to the exchange.
Should I recycle all fragments from a maxed hero? Check the hero's remaining systems and the exact conversion first. A maxed rank alone does not prove every related item is surplus.
Why did recycling one item reduce another item's allowance? Some exchanges share a daily reward-group quota. Check the group allowance rather than assuming a separate cap for each input.
Do random recycling crates guarantee Skin Tickets? Do not budget them as a guaranteed ticket payout. Use the reward preview and distinguish possible contents from a fixed exchange.
Key Takeaways
- Reserve materials for planned upgrades before identifying a surplus.
- Check eligibility, output and shared limits separately.
- Match event scoring to the exact recycling action before processing a batch.
