What is Hero Appointment in State of Survival?

A system that assigns heroes to fixed posts in the Appointment Center. Each filled post gives a permanent account-wide stat bonus, and posts can be upgraded for more.

What are the six appointment posts?

Defensive Strategist, Flag Bearer, Vanguard, Military Advisor, Reservoir Commando and Reservoir Tactician. The last two are specific to Reservoir Raid.

How do I use a Service Badge?

Two ways: skip the countdown on a locked appointment slot, or upgrade a post you have already filled. If you have a locked slot, opening it is usually the better use.

Do appointed heroes still work in my marches?

The bonuses are account-wide rather than march-bound, which is why spare heroes are the sensible choice for posts. Check the text on your own screen before assigning a hero you rely on.

Which heroes should I appoint?

Heroes you own and don't field. Unfinished heroes in a post beat an empty post, and retired heroes from an earlier generation are ideal candidates.

What do Command Manuals and Tactical Guides do?

They are appointment upgrade materials, alongside Service Badges. All three come from events and activity rather than the biocap store.

Is Hero Appointment worth it for free-to-play?

Yes, and disproportionately. It converts surplus heroes a free account can never finish into permanent stats, which no other system does.

Should I upgrade the Reservoir posts?

Only if your alliance actually registers for Reservoir Raid. Otherwise put the materials into the general four.
