Part of the Heroes Series:

Quick Answer

Maddie & Frank are a Legendary Rider hero from the original Gen 1 roster. They can provide an early combat option and useful Explorer control, but should be compared at the rank and skills you can afford. A newly located Maddie does not automatically replace a developed Rider in every activity.

The later Gen 13 Completion return has enhanced military effects built around damage reduction and combo mechanics. Check your actual version before using a max-stat table or deciding which material to buy.

Hero Profile

Detail Maddie & Frank
Rarity Legendary
Affinity Rider; Scout class
Original generation Gen 1
Later development Gen 13 Completion return
Classic specialities Patrol and rally
Explorer tools Pipe Bomb control, Frank's presence, Bio Dart damage support

Frank is part of Maddie's kit, not a separate hero to recruit or a breeding-system pet. Maddie occupies the Rider slot in a normal troop formation.

Fragment Sources and a Sensible Budget

Documented routes include Hero Search, eligible crates and Value Vouchers. Earlier-state reward formats also supply her fragments through Intel and Plague Zone rewards. Availability and quantities depend on the current state and reward pool.

Start by inspecting rewards you already earn. If the next rank needs 40 fragments and you have 32, compare the expected named-fragment claims before converting eight general fragments. Do not convert an entire shared stock when the immediate shortfall is small.

Use Hero Search, Ray's Place and Value Vouchers to check the actual featured hero. A wheel that once featured Maddie may now feature a later generation. An old wheel screenshot is not evidence that today's Biocaps will recruit her.

Classic rank also needs the appropriate Hero Badges. Combat Manuals provide EXP; they do not substitute for missing rank materials. A free-fragment route can still leave a badge or skill bottleneck.

Explorer Skills: How to Use the Kit

Skill Practical use What to watch
Pipe Bomb Draw nearby infected toward a location before the explosion Place it to relieve pressure or collect enemies into an area
Girl's Best Friend Frank joins combat and withdraws when low on health before returning His retreat can leave the squad exposed
Bio Dart Makes a struck target take more damage for a short time Concentrated damage is more useful than scattered attacks during the window

Pipe Bomb is the first skill to examine when control is your obstacle. Use its placement to pull a threatening group away from a vulnerable hero, or gather enemies where the squad can damage them. Casting it after the dangerous group has already overwhelmed the squad loses the main tactical benefit.

Girl's Best Friend is the next candidate when Frank's survival is limiting the stage. Observe what happens when he withdraws. If the rest of the squad immediately collapses, examine the frontline hero and placement as well as Frank's development.

Bio Dart becomes more attractive when the squad survives but cannot finish a tough target. Coordinate damage during its vulnerability window. The Explorer Trail guide explains why troop formation ratios do not replace hero positioning and manual skill use in this mode.

These are conditional upgrade priorities. They are not a requirement to max three skills in the same order regardless of the stage.

Classic Military Versus Completion

Older classic descriptions give Pipe Bomb a chance-based enemy-damage reduction, Girl's Best Friend a troop-damage benefit, and Bio Dart a critical-damage chance. Later enhanced descriptions use a different structure: timed enemy damage reduction, Frank's combo hits, and a friendly combo-rate boost.

That difference matters more than simply comparing two large attack percentages. A formation recommendation built around combo conditions assumes the enhanced kit is active. It is not a promise about a newly recruited early-state Maddie.

For Completion development, inspect the required talent, enhancement and refinement stages individually. The Completion and Limitless guide explains why chips, hero capsules and potion variants cannot be replaced with arbitrary ordinary fragments.

Do not copy a combined reference page's highest displayed stats into an early-game budget. Write down the actual benefit of the next attainable step on your own screen.

Maddie or Travis?

These Riders can serve different jobs:

Activity Decision
Routine eligible infected farming Prefer the march that wins at the lowest useful stamina cost; check Travis's benefit
A target the farming march cannot clear Compare Maddie's developed combat contribution
Explorer wave pressure Consider Pipe Bomb and Frank alongside the rest of the squad
Rally joining Follow the caller's required hero and skill contribution
Settlement defence Compare applicable patrol benefits and the actual incoming threat

Save separate presets instead of making one Rider responsible for everything. The Travis guide covers the stamina comparison; Maddie's combat value does not reproduce his saving by itself.

Replacement and Spending Decisions

Before changing your main Rider, compare the candidate's obtainable rank, skills and relevant equipment. Test against the same kind of target and keep the rest of the march consistent. A victory obtained by sending far more troops does not isolate the hero improvement.

F2P: claim named fragments from useful regular play and reserve shared Legendary materials for a meaningful step. Do not exhaust the account's future Rider budget merely to complete an old rank before a better-supported replacement becomes available.

Spenders: price the complete useful development stage. A paid Completion plan and an early classic-fragment plan are separate purchases with different prerequisites.

Maddie can remain useful in Explorer or a secondary formation after leaving the main combat march. Retaining a role does not require continuing every possible upgrade.

Common Mistakes

  • Treating Frank as a separate recruitable hero or breeding pet.
  • Applying Gen 13 Completion stats to classic Gen 1 Maddie.
  • Using shared fragments before checking near-term named-fragment rewards.
  • Casting Pipe Bomb without considering where it moves infected.
  • Replacing Travis in every farming preset without comparing stamina cost.

FAQ

Are Maddie and Frank one hero? Yes. Frank is part of Maddie's kit; the pair occupies one Rider hero slot.

Can I build Maddie without spending? Documented early-state formats offer named-fragment routes through normal rewards. Check your current pools and budget the other rank materials as well.

Why do different guides show different Maddie skills? Classic and Completion-enhanced military descriptions differ. Check the version and skill stage on your account.

Should I upgrade Pipe Bomb first? It is the first candidate when Explorer control is the problem. A damage or survival bottleneck may call for another upgrade.

Key Takeaways

  • Identify the classic or Completion version before planning materials.
  • Use Pipe Bomb, Frank and Bio Dart to solve a specific Explorer obstacle.
  • Keep the best farming Rider and best combat Rider as separate decisions.
